Top Dog Products – Autumn 2019 – Benji’s Favourites

Benji and I are always on the lookout for beautiful, stylish, well-made dog products. You know I’m a sucker for anything dog related and “dog things” are one of my favourite items to buy, so I have put together a list of my current top picks of dog products, that both Benji and I love.

Acana Dog Food: If you read the ingredients that are in general dog foods available in all supermarkets today, you would be horrified at the amount of rubbish in there. Acana is one of the best dog food brands I have found so far. They pride themselves in high quality, fresh ingredients “from cage-free poultry, nest-laid eggs, ranch-raised meats and wild-caught fish to sun-ripened fruits & vegetables, our fresh ingredients are raised locally, passed fit for human consumption, and then delivered to our kitchens fresh, preservative-free and loaded with goodness”. However, I do still mix fresh chicken and vegetables into Benji’s meals and use Acana as the base. Just as what we eat nourishes our body, the same applies to dog foods and the link between what they eat and their health. I want to ensure Benji is eating food that will sustain and keep him living as long as possible.

Nandi Treats: If you are looking for 100% natural dog treats then try the Nandi Treats range. This South African brand have a range of products and flavours. Benji’s favourite is the Karoo Ostrich Freeze-Dired meat treats. Whimzees: Made with all-natural ingredients, these treats help remove plaque and tartar as your dog chews. I am not sure how much plague they are actually removing as Benji east these in 3 seconds flat, but he does seem to love them.

Bailey & Hound collar: Benji was gifted this gorgeous leather collar from Bailey & Hound who have recently launched their premium dog collars and leashes range. Each collar is handcrafted with genuine leather and comes with a personalised sterling silver tag. I love how unique and well made their tags are, I haven’t seen any like this before. If you haven’t heard of them, visit their website to see all their products. They cater for all dogs and have a variety of sizes available too.

Poop Bags: The least exciting part of having a dog but I wanted to mention these poop bags specifically as they are made from plants and renewable resources. I go through about 10 to 15 poop bags a week as we go on daily walks and always felt guilty about using single use plastic bags for Benji’s golden nuggets. The Original Poop Bags® are the only dog waste manufacturer to earn the USDA Certified Biobased label and I love supporting companies that are doing something good!

Poop Bag dispenser: These are super handy. Clip it on your dog’s lead and you won’t be in that awkward situation again when you dog is having a poop, everyone is looking at you and you don’t have your poop bags with you. All dog owners know what I mean!

Recycle Poop Bags & Poop Bag Dispenser

Collapsible water bowl: Having one of these collapsible bowls is a game changer and is probably one products I would say everyone needs to own, especially if you live in a hot climate like Durban and you take your dog out with you. It makes giving your dog water at any time so easy and accessible and doesn’t take up much space when folded so it can easily be stored in your handbag.

The best quality ones I have seen so far are from Woolworths. Make sure you go to their bigger stores to see their pet range.

The Harry Barker range: I was casually cursing the aisles in Woolworths and stumbled across the HarryBarker range they are now stocking. I can’t believe these goodies are available in South Africa! They have doggie storage boxes, bandanas and a range of dog toys that are simple but beautifully made. The types of dog toys you don’t actually mind having in the house. I bought Benji the cotton rope and fetch balls but I really wanted one of everything!
