Our little family loves to brunch so when we heard of Vicolo,
a new restaurant that had opened up the North Coast, we decided to do the road
trip from Durban North to Ballito to try it out.
Vicolo is at the new Zimbali Wedge Centre. There are a few
fashion, home décor and beauty shops that have opened on the boulevard and the
centre has great potential to be a hustling hub of shoppers and diners. We
arrived at 11:30am so missed the brunch menu. Note to self, if you want a proper
brekkie set your alarm and get out of bed. Vicolo has been opened by the lovely
people from Old Town Italy, one of Durban’s most loved Italian restaurants so
it has the same Italian charm and menu.
I wish their menu had a few alternatives to Old Town Italy’s
but at least it serves the same great quality coffee and melanzane alla
parmigiana which is in the top two melanzane’s in Durban in my opinion. It is
simple delicious. We ordered both of the above! Bringing Benji was no problem at all and they were happy for us to sit outside with him.
The waiters at Vicolo are especially welcoming and attentive.
Nothing seems too much for them. The décor at Vicolo is beautiful. You can see
how much attention went into choosing every fitting and piece of furniture. The
high ceilings, natural light and gorgeous finishes make this one of the new hot
spots for brunching and lunching in my opinion. This would be the perfect place
for mimosas with the girls or a large group booking due to the ample space but
also has a romantic, Italian charm that would be perfect for a date night.
If you are looking for great food in a stylish setting with
a relaxing ambiance than pop into Vicolo. You won’t be disappointed.
